Community Description:Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke, both novel and TV adaptation.
Welcome to the Friends of English Magic, a fandom community for both the novel and BBC adaptation of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke. We invite members to post fic (or fic summaries and a link to AO3), meta, fan art, fan edits, and general silliness about our favourite fictional 19th century Magicians.

In the interests of keeping it friendly, some ground rules:
- Sexual content, non-sexual nudity (we mean Vinculus, let's be honest), horror, violence, and gore are all perfectly allowed, but please put them behind a cut-tag so that people who don't want to see it can opt out.
- Please remember that while we all love a head-canon, they are ultimately yours, and no-one is obliged to come along with them if they just aren't seeing it. Conversely, if you're just not seeing someone's head-canon, just leave them too it.
- The same goes for shipping. Someone else's ship is not in competition with, or a threat to yours. Neither are canon ships, and anyone caught trying to demonise Arabella Strange so you can smush Jonathan together with someone else will get Stern Words.
- Sexism, racism, homo-, trans-, and queer-antagonism, disablism, or any other unpleasantness towards people over an intrinsic characteristic (yes, that includes religion, and being fat) will not be tolerated. Likewise, if your politics include the notion that some people are not people, this is not the community for you. We do not do that here. Moderators will check in with you over first-time offences, to rule out honest misunderstandings, but wilful ignorance will get you banned.
- Writing in a cod-Regency style with unnecessary capitalisation for emphasis is not mandatory, but is encouraged because it's funny and we're a pretentious bunch.
